Review and *Giveaway*: Candice Foods Gluten Free Bars

I first had a Candice Food bar at some expo – no idea of which one though. I had their chocolate fudge bar. Although I’m not one with a ton of food allergies – I loved the fact that it had no dairy, nuts, soy, eggs, or corn on top of the no gluten. I liked that they were around 200 calories – a great snack in the middle of the day that gave me enough energy for a cardio workout. I liked that the base flavor of most of them were a form of chocolate.

I received some sample bars from Candice Foods (thank you Candice!) and I wanted to run through the list of flavors and my thoughts on them. The base for all of these bars are sunflower seed butter and crispy brown rice – and they all taste like that. If you don’t like sunflower butter, then you won’t like this! I just went through several GoPicnic boxes with sunflower butter and crackers and got a little sick of the taste – but then again, I can eat nuts without a problem. Sunflower butter is a great alternative to bars that are packed full of nut butters (like the ones I eat all the time). It’s awesome that Candice Foods is making products like this that are nut-free as well as vegan to boot!

Blueberry Vanilla

First up, I had a taste of the Blueberry Vanilla bar. Now, I had a previous experience with a blueberry bar with Larabar. My boyfriend hated it and said it tasted like ashes, however, I really liked it. Maybe I’m just a sucker for blueberry bars? Anyways, this bar is superior to Larabar’s blueberry bar. I do not miss blueberry muffins anymore – I have this bar (and believe me, I still remember what blueberry muffins from Dunkin’ Donuts taste like). It has little bits of blueberry in it (at least I think that’s what it was, regardless it was delicious)! And it’s got this hint of vanilla in it that makes it taste more like a blueberry muffin than just a protein bar with blueberry in it.

Blueberry Vanilla is made using:  Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Agave, Sunflower Seed Butter (roasted sunflower seeds, mono-diglycerides to prevent separation, salt, mixed tocopherols to preserve freshness), Crispy Brown Rice (organic brown rice, brown rice syrup, sea salt), Rice Protein, Rice Bran, Blueberry Flavor, Sea Salt.

Ratings: Four and a half wheat stalks

There’s other flavors too, but I didn’t like them as much as the Blueberry Vanilla. This is one of my favorite bars now and I have a feeling I’ll be ordering boxes of them soon if I can’t find them anywhere around me.

Chocolate Mint

This is my boyfriend’s favorite, but this is one of my least favorites – once again we don’t agree. It’s very minty, too minty for me. If I give it a 2 and he gives it a 4.5, I’ll give it a 3.5.

Chocolate Mint is made using:  Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Agave, Rice Protein, Sunflower Seed Butter (roasted sunflower seeds, mono-diglycerides to prevent separation, salt, mixed tocopherols to preserve freshness), Crispy Brown Rice (organic brown rice, brown rice syrup, sea salt), Chocolate Cacoa Liquor (non-alcohol), Cocoa Butter, Rice Bran, Mint Flavor, Sea Salt.

Ratings: Three and a half wheat stalks

Mocha Java

This bar is awesome! There are REAL COFFEE GROUNDS inside this bar! It tastes so good. This ALMOST beats the Blueberry Vanilla flavor, but not quite. I really dig this bar, it’s really different from anything out there that I could find.

Mocha Java is made using: Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Agave, Rice Protein, Sunflower Seed Butter (roasted sunflower seeds, mono-diglycerides to prevent separation, salt, mixed tocopherols to preserve freshness), Crispy Brown Rice (organic brown rice, brown rice syrup, sea salt), Chocolate Cacoa Liquor (non-alcohol), Cocoa Butter, Rice Bran, Coffee Grounds, Sea Salt.

Ratings: Four and a half wheat stalks

Chocolate Orange

Chocolate Orange is made using:  Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Agave, Rice Protein, Sunflower Seed Butter (roasted sunflower seeds, mono-diglycerides to prevent separation, salt, mixed tocopherols to preserve freshness), Crispy Brown Rice (organic brown rice, brown rice syrup, sea salt), Chocolate Cacoa Liquor (non-alcohol), Cocoa Butter, Rice Bran, Orange Flavor, Sea Salt.

The boyfriend took all of the chocolate orange bars before I could get a pic of my own. It looks just like the other bars – it’s not like it’s orange! The boyfriend really liked this orange flavored bar. He thought the flavor was like orange rinds (in a good way). I, however, didn’t like the flavoring. He gives it a 4 and I give it a 2.5 – I’ll spit it (although my ratings always favor me ha) and call it a 3.

Ratings: Three wheat stalks

Chocolate Cherry

Chocolate Cherry is made using:  Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Agave, Rice Protein, Sunflower Seed Butter (roasted sunflower seeds, mono-diglycerides to prevent separation, salt, mixed tocopherols to preserve freshness), Crispy Brown Rice (organic brown rice, brown rice syrup, sea salt), Chocolate Cacoa Liquor (non-alcohol),  Cacoa Butter, Cherry Flavor, Sea Salt.

This is another one that wasn’t my favorite. It tastes just like the chocolate fudge bar, but with a sweet cherry flavoring added to it. I’m not a big fan of chocolate cherries – so it doesn’t surprise me that I didn’t like it. The boyfriend thought it was less memorable than the orange flavor.

Ratings: Three wheat stalks

Chocolate Fudge

Chocolate Fudge is made using:  Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Agave, Rice Protein, Sunflower Seed Butter (roasted sunflower seeds, mono-diglycerides to prevent separation, salt, mixed tocopherols to preserve freshness), Crispy Brown Rice (organic brown rice, brown rice syrup, sea salt), Chocolate Cacoa Liquor (non-alcohol), Cocoa Butter, Rice Bran, Vanilla Extract, Sea Salt.

The chocolate fudge bar is the base for most of the other bars – and it’s just like what it says – chocolate! It’s not overly sweet or overly chocolately. It is soft, yet has crunch because of it’s rice crisp base.

Ratings: Three and a half wheat stalks

If I had my choice, I’d probably have Kind bars or Larabars – because I’m a bit of a nut freak. But if you’re not as nut-friendly as I am, or have numerous allergies – these bars are for you!

Again, Candice Foods bars are very allergen-friendly. They are safe for anyone with the top 10 allergies, and are gluten-free! They have no gluten, eggs, dairy, nuts, soy, or corn! They’re made with organic ingredients and are vegan. There are no GMO’s, additives, or preservatives. According to their website, they have a dedicated facility that is free of: Gluten, Casein, Wheat, Dairy, Corn, Soy, Egg, All Nuts, Peanuts, GMO’s and artificial flavorings or colorings.

They’re $21.95 for a 12 pack of bars and you can order them online.

Be on the lookout for more good stuff coming from Candice Foods!
